● What is RNA data?: RNA is a copy of DNA data, but T is replaced with U. The process of creating a RNA from DNA is called transcription. Different types of RNA are used as information source for creating a proteins, for transporting and assembling the proteins.
● What's a transcriptome?: This is a set of all RNA molecules in a cell. If genome can be described as a set of all information in the cell, the transcriptome reflects all the activity in the cell.
● Is the transcriptome constant or does it change?: It is not constant, depending on the point of time it the transcriptome may be different
● Which types of RNA do you know, what do they do?: there are three types of RNA. Messenger RNA, that contains RNA data for protein synthesis and transports it to the ribosome for protein synthesis. Ribosomal RNA performs the translation of the messenger RNA to the protein inside of ribosome. That is the building factory. Transfer RNA brings the amino acids in the ribosome, to assemble the protein.
● Why is RNA interesting for building phylogenies?: Ribosomal RNA gene is one of few genes that are common for all species.
● Name some interesting RNA genes!: 16S gene.
● Why is the RNA secondary structure interesting for RNA evolution?: The secondary structure of the RNA has an influence on the function of molecule. The letters can have three contacts instead of two, that makes the single mutations impossible because of complementarity.
